How to choose a music school in Las Vegas

Las Vegas Music School · · 5 min read

Short answer

Before choosing a music school in Las Vegas, ask eight things: the full price including fees, whether your child keeps the same teacher every week, what happens when you miss a lesson, how close the studio is, whether you can try a first visit, how progress is tracked, whether online lessons are available, and how the school communicates with parents.

1. What's the full price?

Ask for monthly tuition and any extras: registration, recital fees and books. A clear price up front is a good sign. At Las Vegas Music School, tuition is $200 a month for a weekly 30-minute lesson or $400 for 60 minutes, the same for every instrument.

2. Will my child have the same teacher every week?

Progress depends on a teacher who knows your child. Ask how often students change teachers, and why.

3. What happens if we miss a lesson?

Every school has a policy on cancellations and make-up lessons. Read it before you enroll, especially if your family travels or has changing work schedules.

4. How close is the studio?

A 15-minute drive every week adds up. Pick a location near home, school or work. Las Vegas Music School has eight studios across Summerlin, Southwest Las Vegas, Town Square and Henderson.

5. Can we try it first?

A first visit shows you the teacher's style and whether your child connects with them. Every new student here starts with a complimentary Initial Assessment.

6. How is progress tracked?

Ask how the teacher sets goals and how you'll know your child is improving: lesson notes, recitals, exams or regular check-ins.

7. Are online lessons an option?

Online lessons are useful for busy weeks, travel or bad weather. Check whether the same teacher teaches both.

8. How does the school communicate?

Find out who answers when you call or text, and how quickly. It matters when you need to reschedule.

Red flags

  • No written policy for missed lessons
  • Prices that are only given after a sales call
  • Frequent teacher changes
  • No way to try a first visit

Questions parents ask

Are private lessons better than group classes?

Private lessons move at your child's pace and give full attention to technique. Group classes cost less and can be social. Most students who want steady progress choose private lessons.

Do you have music lessons in Henderson?

Yes. Our Henderson studio is at Green Valley Ranch, 170 S Green Valley Pkwy, Suite 300.

What instruments do you teach?

Eighteen: piano, guitar, ukulele, banjo, bass, drums, percussion, saxophone, clarinet, flute, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, cello, double bass, music theory and sound engineering.
